We’ve had a few weeks now of trying to avoid standing on fallen apples on the path and grass – as mentioned in my last update, this is probably my least favourite time for this crab apple tree.
It is beginning to look a bit bedraggled now, past its prime.
We have collected two boxes of the apples with a view to making something with them – but no great inspiration yet, crab apple jam doesn’t appeal much. If you have any ideas or recipes, please feel free to put them in the comments…

It may look tatty in person but in pictures it’s pretty.
I love the last photo, like jewels hanging from the branches, Frances
You’re right, the colour of the apples really brightens everything up!
Crab apple jelly (like jam, but strained of its bits) has the most beautiful colour (like the John Downie fruit I think you’ve got there) and a sublime taste. Honest, if you haven’t tried it (and I’m guessing from your remarks you haven’t) then do give it a go.
I have googled a few recipes, and will give it go, seems such a shame to put them all in the compost bin!
I think looks lovely covered in apples. What good value; beautiful blossom and now bright, shiny fruit.
You’re right, I shouldn’t complain about it – it’s just that we can’t keep up with the apples falling on the path and grass! It is gorgeous when the blossom is out.
